Chapter 1

George and Nancy Streeter left Wisconsin in 1883 with a covered wagon headed for Dakota Territory.

They were on the road for about six weeks to Kingsbury County, where they intended to settle.

They crossed the Mississippi at the ferry in Dubuque, Iowa.

On some days, they covered 15 to 20 miles, but only 5 miles in rainy weather.

Eventually, they reached Dakota Territory, where the prairie seemed endless.

Once they arrived in Kingsbury County, South Dakota, they headed to the land office in Watertown.

The Streeters were assigned Section 23, Township 109 North, Range 55 West. See the map.

 The first thing they built on the land was a well.

They worked the land and built the rest of the farm.

What George and Nancy and their three sons, accomplished was phenomenal.

In 1890, they fulfilled the requirements of the Homestead Act and received their certificate.

The neighbors and the Streeters also built a small school.

Whitewood No. 6 or the Streeter School was a one-room schoolhouse.

As you can read in the book, around 1895, they lived with ten people on the farm.

Chapter 2 

The Streeter family has 3 sons and 3 daughters. Picture taken around 1900.

The three sons left the farm to start their own lives, while the three sisters stayed.

Eva lives with her brother William in Spring Lake, near Oldham, South Dakota while going to school in Oldham.

Harry Streeter and Clarence Streeter have farms next to that of their father, George Streeter. The Streeter School of Whitewood No. 6 is located on Clarence Streeter's property. William is living in Watertown.

Her two older sisters also move away, and Eva remains alone on the farm.

Chapter 3

Eva is active in the Methodist church in Oldham and does community work there.

During her community work, Eva met Chas Gregory.
